If you require sources for important historical dates in your ancestors' community, and the stories and photos revolving around those dates, contact your local civil archives, local libraries and other interest groups in the community.
For genealogists who have ancestors with a history in Wetaskiwin and area, we have compiled some print and electronic resources to assist with your research. Many of the following resources are largely unindexed, and several libraries and archives are not set up to do extensive research for you. The Wetaskiwin Public Library has the library edition of Ancestry that can be accessed using your personal laptop/mobile device or through one of nine public computers. It is a great way to start or continue your genealogy research.

First Nations — Ermineskin Cree Nation › | The Ermineskin Cree Nation (Reserve #138) is one member of the Four Nations of Maskwacis, Alberta. It can be found in Central Alberta about fifty miles south of Edmonton on Highway 2A, halfway between the towns of Wetaskiwin and Ponoka. The Cree Nation’s land base is approximately 25,000 acres and is traditionally known as Bear Hills or Maskwacheesihk. The Cree people of the Ermineskin Cree Nation have a historical relationship that extends over centuries to the area. The Reserve was established in 1885 and belongs to the Treaty Six Group of Indian Tribes in Western Canada. Read more about the Ermineskin Cree First Nation at their website. |
