• Charles D. Denney Research Papers, which include over 1200 family history files with connections to the Selkirk settlers, fur-traders and Métis families of early Western Canada.
• People and place binders: clippings relating mainly to Alberta people and places
• Edmonton Journal newspaper clippings, 1972‒1983, featuring birth, marriage, death and special announcements
• Birth, Marriage and Death (BMD) Card index. Information extracted from registrations for Alberta District, NWT, 1870‒1905. Originals are held at the Provincial Archives of Alberta (PAA). Information used to publish Alberta: Index to Registrations of Births, Marriages and Deaths, 1870 to 1905

Local history books relay the history of a community through stories about the people, businesses, schools, churches, and other organizations that built and inhabited that community. These stories, often recounted by the early settlers and their descendants, can be invaluable sources of information for family history researchers, providing ‘meat on the bones’ adding interest and flavour to a family history.

To determine which Alberta History you need

The research centre has four-computers, microfilm and fiche readers, and photocopy services available. There is an assortment of genealogical subscriptions and databases for the public to use: Ancestry.com, Find My Past, Genealogy Quebec, the Alberta Homestead Index, AGS Surname Database and Relatively Speaking Digital Library.

• AGS Members are entitled to borrow materials from the AGS Library
• Members may borrow up to 10 items: books and/or periodicals for four weeks
• Overdue fees are $1.00 per week per item
• Due to the cost of mailing and insurance, library staff are unable to  mail out local history books
• Contact the AGS Library Chair with your request if you are seeking information from a local history book. Cost: a fee of $5.00 plus 50⊄ per page, plus mailing
